ONEIDA-SHERRILL LIONS CLUB

Meeting minutes 9/27/2011

The regular meeting of the club was called together by King Lion Pat Fearon at the Madison House Restaurant at 7 p.m. with these members in attendance: Jerry Baker, Loyal Canning, Hal Chamberlain, Pete Dwyer, Mike Jaquays, Charlie Leclau, Pete Luvera, Brenda Manaseri, Ed Miller, John Musgrove, Leif Nicolaisen, John Perretta, Joe Shay, Bob Visalli, plus our perpetual guest Sukosh Fearon and speaker Sara Getman, Sherrill’s recreation supervisor, and her friend Pete.

KL PAT told the group CABVI was hosting a Dining in the Dark event Oct. 15 with an admission price of $100. She also presented a thank you note from Leader Dogs with a patch for our banner.

LION BOB updated the Lions on the pancake breakfast and distributed extra tickets. The breakfast is Nov. 6 at the Knights of Columbus.

LION JOHN P asked everyone to have their placemat ads in by the second meeting in October. He said so far $1100 has been turned in.

KL PAT said Assemblyman Bill Magee will donate syrup.

LION LEIF announced a fundraising postage stamp collection and offered to chair the project.

SARA told the group about recreational opportunities in Sherrill and asked for input in upcoming activities.

KL PAT said the Nov. 8 meeting will fall on Election Day, and suggested we move it to Nov. 9.

LION LEIF gave a treasurer’s report and it was accepted. He also updated the group on the Enjoy the City books and distributed them.

LION MIKE gave the secretary’s report and it was accepted.

LION MIKE SMITH was removed from the membership rolls in good standing.

The CLIP Tray raised $13.07.

The 50/50 awarded $20 to KL PAT.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER RETURNS

ONEIDA-The annual Oneida-Sherrill Lions Club’s pancake breakfast returns on Nov. 6, offering not only a good meal, but the chance to help out a great cause at the same time.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Lions’ projects in improving the lives of sight and hearing challenged persons both locally and all over the world. The menu includes pancakes, syrup, sausage, juice, and coffee. For dessert guests are invited to visit their bake sale, where Lions and their significant others have cooked up some tasty treats.

The breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus building at 164 Madison Street in Oneida. Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for kids under 12 and senior citizens, and available from any chapter member or at the door.

LION DOUG'S FREE DRIVING CLASS FOR VETERANS

Lion Doug Rosekrans of the Oneida-Sherrill Lions Club is offering a free Safe Driving Class for Veterans on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 8:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. at the Rusty Rail on Seneca Avenue in Wampsville.
Luncheon will be served by the Rusty Rail staff at noon for $10, including tax and gratuity.
Pre-registration is required by calling Rosekrans at 697-9865.
The class is limited to 40 veterans and their spouses.
Please arrive 15 minutes early. Bring your driver’s license and a pen.
The Rusty Rail is handicapped accessible.

MINUTES FROM 9/13/11

The organizational meeting for the 2011-2012 season was called to order by KING LION PAT Fearon at the Madison House Restaurant at 7 p.m., with these Lions in attendance:
Jerry Baker, Loyal Canning, Hal Chamberlain, Ernie Giraud, Mike Jaquays, Brenda Manaseri, Ed Miller, John Musgrove, Leif Nicolaisen, Ed Thoma, and Lou White, plus our perpetual guest Sukosh Fearon.

LION LEIF gave the treasurer’s report and it was accepted as read.

LION MIKE gave a program update, noting the next three meetings would feature Sherrill Recreation Supervisor Sara Getman, Veteran Images correspondent John Ready and author John Maxey. KL PAT suggested Patti McGee come in to discuss her new cancer guidebook, and it was voted to make Patti’s presentation our first spouses’ night of the season.

KL PAT asked the group what they wanted to do with the proposal to purchase benches for the city, and after discussion the proposal was defeated. LION MIKE suggested we give the Sherrill-Kenwood Library $500 this year instead of next, and that motion was approved. LION LOU also suggested we increase out scholarship donation.

The group was reminded to go out and get their placemat ad orders ASAP with a deadline of the first meeting in October for the money to be turned in.

Our hearing aid donation recipient wrote a nice thank-you letter, and LION MIKE will see about getting a photo for the paper and website.

LION LEIF distributed Enjoy the City books, and said Lions with needs for books in other areas should see him.

LION BRENDA offered to run the tag sale again, and the bottle drive was dropped.

LIONS LAURA Harrison and PAUL Manaseri were taken off the club membership rolls in good standing.

THE TAIL TWISTER brought in $14.32.

THE 50/50 awarded $14 to Lion ED MILLER.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:17 p.m.

MINUTES OF THE LIONS CLUB MEETING OF 6/14/11

The meeting was called to order at the Madison House restaurant in Oneida at 7 p.m. by King Lion Jerry Baker with these members in attendance: Treasurer Leif Nicolaisen, Secretary Mike Jaquays, and Lions Loyal Canning, Hal Chamberlain, Pat Fearon, Charlie Leclau, Brenda Manseri, Ed Miller, Doug Rosekrans, Ed Thoma, Bob Visalli, and Lou White, plus special guests Sukosh Fearon and Zone Chair Paul Haynes.

LION MIKE gave the secretary’s report, and it was accepted as presented.

LION LEIF gave the treasurer’s report, and it was accepted as presented.

KL JERRY said he received a thank you letter from the Oneida Public Library for our donation of $500 for materials for the sight impaired.

KL JERRY updated the group on the woman in need of financial assistance to purchase hearing aids, and said the 20Y2 could also offer a grant. The club’s expected expense was $250 and the group accepted it unanimously.

LION BOB thanked the Lions for helping with the senior picnic, and gave kudos to Steve Long of the CAC in Sherrill for his work. He suggested a $25 gift certificate for Steve and the bus driver and the membership agreed. LION BOB also suggested having a bus stop at Noyes Manor.

ZONE CHAIR PAUL gave an update on the goings-on in the zone, and officially installed the 2011-2012 club officers:

SARA GETMAN IS OUR FIRST SPEAKER OF THE SEASON

Hey Lions! The speaker for the 9/27 meeting will be Sara Getman, the recreation supervisor for the city of Sherrill. Her subject matter will be geared towards recreational opportunities for seniors, and she would like your input regarding programs you would like to see in the future.

Upcoming speakers will also include John Ready, retired U.S. Army major talking about his Veteran Images website and John Maxey, co-owner of the Dwarfline Motel in Verona Beach, discussing his book on the people they've met in the hospitality industry.
