KENWOOD >> Encouraging young people to reach out and help others is one of the many goals of the Oneida-Sherrill Lions Club.

The Lions honored Oneida High School senior Krislyn Adle and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School senior Racheal Cadrette with their annual scholarship awards at their meeting on May 23, celebrating their previous community service and future plans to continue their good works. Adle was joined at the Lakeview Restaurant dinner meeting by her mother Lyndee Adle, while Cadrette was accompanied by grandmother Valerie Cadrette and father Bill Cadrette.

Both students stood to be recognized by the club, and received checks for $600. Cadrette said she would be attending Utica College in the fall to major in biology, with aspirations to continue on to study pre-med. Adle explained she would be heading to Onondaga Community College to major in either human services or humanities.

Lion Steve Johnson, who co-chairs the scholarship committee with Lion Wendy Chamberlain, said the two seniors’ previous efforts coupled with their commitment to others in the future earned them the club’s kudos.

“They both had very impressive applications,” Johnson said. “They have been heavy in community service and are both pursuing careers helping other people. They really stood out from the others.”
