UPCOMING EVENTS

Hi Lions,

I got a call from DG Tim Bush yesterday that there is officer's training this Friday, Aug. 29 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Peace Inc. in East Syracuse or also Saturday, Aug. 30 in Binghamton in the morning. Anybody interested in these? I will be working so I will have to miss them.

Also, Sept. 14 is the first cabinet meeting in Cortland. Anybody want to go to that? He would like a headcount for both, so give me a call at 280-0692 or respond here if you are interested.

Don't forget the picnic at Honest Bob's house this Thursday, with a Board Meeting afterwards.

Our first regular meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 9, and is a joint meeting with the VIPs. Sept. 23 is a SPOUSES NIGHT with speaker Carol Butler talking about her recipe collection for the Karing Cookbook. All Lions and spouses are encouraged to bring along their favorite recipes for inclusion in the book.

Don't forget all meetings will now be at the Oneida Legion.

See you soon!

WE NEED BANDAIDS!

Hi Lions,

King Lion Pat would like to have all of us bring out kid-oriented cartoon decorated Bandaids to our picnic to donate to the Golisano Children's Hospital. It sounds like a great outreach, and something that will be very rewarding as we help the little tykes in need of something to lift their spirits.

    Thanks and see you there!

2014-2105 OFFICERS INSTALLED

(Photo by Lion Ed Thoma) District Governor Kermit Mott installed the 2014-2015 officers of the Oneida-Sherrill Lions Club at their meeting on May 27, 2104. From left are tail twister John Musgrove, treasurer Bob Visalli, president Pat Fearon, immediate past president Brenda Manaseri, membership treasurer Doug Rosekrans, and secretary Mike Jaquays. LIONS COMMEND LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

(Photo by Mike Jaquays) The Oneida-Sherrill Lions Club awarded scholarships of $500 to two area high school seniors selected for their interest in pursuing higher education in a health-related field at their May 27 meeting. Honored were Michael Fedroff, left, of the Oneida High School, and Anthony Thomas, right, of the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School, seen with scholarship committee chairperson Lion Grace Peretta. Fedroff is a volunteer firefighter with the Oneida Castle department and an Eagle Scout, and plans to attend Mohawk Valley Community College to become a paramedic. Thomas is a member of his school's National Honor Society and president of their Students Against Destructive Decisions chapter, and plans to go to Utica College to study psychology. Cheers to both of this exemplary young men!

SPAGHETTI SUPPER A RECORD!

Even with nasty weather and a smaller than usual turnout, the annual spaghetti supper fundraiser for our youth scholarships on April 22, 2014 was a big success!

Treasurer Honest Bob just reported the final tally -- contrary to an earlier email initially expecting a lower total, thanks to the generosity of several Lions who paid for tickets even when they weren't sold we brought in a record $694, well over his $400 budget estimate.

As a bonus, we also sold a couple of brooms and netted an extra $20.

Our thanks to everyone who worked the dinner, made the delicious desserts, and sold tickets. Special thanks to King Lion Brenda for hosting the dinner at her Madison House Restaurant and to Lion Pat Fearon for organizing the entire event.

BOARD MEETING POSTPONED

Hi Lions,

After planning our next board meeting for April 1 at our last meeting, Honest Bob and I both found we are already booked for that evening, so we will have to cancel it. How about a short board meeting right before our next regular Lions meeting? Maybe we could meet at 6 p.m. instead of 6:30. What do you think? And, as always, board meetings are open -- but not mandatory -- for all Lions who want to join us.

Our next speaker will be Terri Welcher, volunteer coordinator from Oneida Healthcare. See you there!

ZONE MEETING THIS TUESDAY!

Just a reminder that there is a Zone Meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the Savoy in Rome at 6:30 p.m. I took a preliminary headcount at the last meeting, but for car pooling purposes could everybody who wants to go respond to this email also? King Lion Brenda, Lion Pat, Lion Doug (who, if you haven't heard, was one of the poor passengers on the recent "typhoid cruise" where he was violently ill for five days straight) and Honest Bob have already responded that they won't be able to make it. Thanks and see you there!
